We were honoured to welcome Martina Cardamone from the University of Calabria. During her visit, she joined the second Research Afternoon, during which she and our PhD students and researchers presented their research. On the second day, our research group gained insight into the Human Systems Symbiosis Lab's LEONARDO project. Martina's visit was an important step in strengthening international cooperation and exploring future research opportunities.
The 19th International Symposium on Applied Computational Intelligence and Informatics (SACI 2025) took place at two universities: Óbuda University and Politehnica University of Timișoara. We are delighted to share that two of our students, PhD student Gergely Halász and BSc student Judit Horváth, had the opportunity to attend the conference.
We were honoured to welcome Mario Henrique Bueno Moreira Callefi, associate researcher, to our laboratory. As part of the exchange program, Dr. Callefi gave a short presentation on the NVivo software and demonstrated how it can be used effectively in content analysis to improve the rigor and structure of research processes. The meeting was an important step toward strengthening international cooperation and building interdisciplinary research bridges between institutions.
The renewed Szentágothai János Protestant College (PTE TTK SZJSZK) of the Faculty of Science of the University of Pécs organized the SZOFIKON - Szentágothai University Interdisciplinary Conference with the aim of establishing a tradition. The conference provided an opportunity for students to present their scientific work. Two students from the Industry 5.0 laboratory participated in the conference. Judit Horváth was awarded with the second place, while Dominika Rasztik was awarded with a special award. Congratulations to them for their achievement!
The Dr. Tamás Varga Scientific Student Research Award is open to undergraduate and master students of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Pannonia whose scientific and demonstration/mentoring activities are evaluated according to a set of criteria. The aim of the award is to recognise and support students' outstanding scientific work. This year, Mónika Gugolya was the winner of this prestigious award. Congratulations!
In 2025, 12 foreign visiting professors will join Hungarian research centres, research institutes and universities as part of the programme to increase the international competitiveness of Hungarian research teams. The Department of Systems Engineering of the University of Pannonia has also successfully applied for the internationally renowned researcher Prof. Dr David Carlos Romero Díaz to join the group for three months.
The ceremonial presentation of the "Excellent Research Infrastructure" certificates by the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office (NKFIH) took place at Budapest University of Technology and Economics. During the event, the Department of System Engineering received the title "Human-Centred Digitalisation Solutions Industry 5.0 Laboratory."
The Pannonia Prize is awarded by the Senate of the University of Pannonia to recognised foreign personalities who, through their professional work and contacts, contribute to the international recognition of the University of Pannonia, help to establish long-term international professional cooperation and support the creation of new fields of study according to the University's development plan. This prestigious prize was awarded this year by the University Senate to Prof. Dr. David Romero. Congratulations Professor!
During his visit, the Professor also gave two presentations on Operator 4.0 and Digital Lean. Bachelor, Master and PhD students from the Institute of Systems Engineering were also able to present their research, and the students received valuable advice from the Professor on each of these topics. Thank you for all your advice!
As part of the Pannonia exchange programme, Dr. Tamás Ruppert, Dr. Tuan-Anh Tran and Judit Horváth from the Department of Systems Engineering were hosted by Uglješa Marjanović from the University of Novi Sad. This meeting marked the start of future joint research in the field of human-centred manufacturing.
Our first Research Afternoon took place at the Department of Systems Engineering of the University of Pannonia, where several of our industrial partners visited us and we were able to talk about our research and results for almost three and a half hours. Thank you all and we promise to continue!
In the frame of Pannonia exchange program, Tuan-anh Tran from Institute of System Engineering has been hosted by the research team of Professor Matthias Thürer, chair of Professorship of Production Planning and Intralogistics, in Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany. During the exchange period, two sides have established shared research interest and planed joint research in the field of production system monitoring, production process mining and improvement.

The Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering of the University of Pannonia decided to establish the "Péter Árva Study Scholarship" in memory of the founder of the Department. The scholarship is awarded once a year to an undergraduate student who has achieved excellence in the field of process engineering. This year, the scholarship was given to our PhD student András Darányi. Congratulations!
Tuan-anh Tran received the bronze award for PhD student in the 2024 annual "Student Paper Contests" organized by the IEEE Hungary Section (IEEE HS). The awarding paper, "Heart Rate Variability Measurement to Assess Acute Work-Content-Related Stress of Workers in Industrial Manufacturing Environment—A Systematic Scoping Review," was formulated in collaboration with the HECON (Egészségügyi Közgazdaságtan Kutatóközpont) team at Obuda University. This paper is a mutual effort to connect human factors research with the medical science approach in the industrial environment. Based on the founded facts in this paper, we have established many future research orientations accordingly. Congratulations for this award!
The Reman Challenge was hosted for the fifth time by BORG Automotive, with three students from the Industry 5.0 laboratory taking part. The team of Abdulrahman Khalid, Timea Czvetkó and Gergely Halász finished in the third place.
The challenge was about research and innovate transformative solutions that can revolutionize operators' work conditions in remanufacturing operations. From virtual reality to human-robot collaboration, your only boundaries are the limits of feasibility and scalability of the solutions.

The Hungarian Fuzzy Society is a division of the János Neumann Computer Science Society. The prize is awarded in two categories, for students in higher education (BSc, MSc) and PhD students. In both categories, it is intended to recognise outstanding scientific and creative activity based on relevant publications. András Darányi, PhD student at the Faculty of Engineering, won the Hungarian Fuzzy Society's Youth Award. Congratulations for this award!
